Today we were due to announce that Dr Jane Goodall was to be our key speaker at the NFWI 2026 Annual Meeting. But instead, we are mourning her sudden loss.

Jane leaves an incredible legacy, and will continue to inspire young and older conservationists - including many of our members - forever. RIP.
The late Jane Goodall started calmly yet determinedly into the camera. She is wearing a black top with a colourful brown and white butterfly style shawl. She wears a silver necklace bearing the shape of Africa. She has white hair. All around her the background is black. Photo credit: Vincent Calmel.

Jeryl Stone, NFWI Chair: I have so enjoyed seeing today's WI Day sisterhood & celebrations. Our movement is 110 years old - but absolutely thriving; reflected in each post & party happening today. Long may we continue to be a lodestar for friendship and getting things done! Thank you for everything.

Today is WI Day and our 110th birthday! For our members, 16 September always presents a chance to celebrate the firm friendships in our movement, recognise our fantastic legacy of inspiring women, and reflect on all that we achieve together through our quiet yet persistent power.
Melissa Green, NFWI CEO, in black - sits in the middle of a local WI group that she recently attended. An image from WI members attending the Climate Coalition, 'Act Now, Change Forever' Lobby Day earlier this summer. A group of diverse women hold up banners and a crocheted 'heat map' to indicate the effects of climate change. The women of Margate WI at sunset on the beach, hold up heart shapes with their hands, as they celebrate launching 'Bystanders can be Lifesavers' after the Annual Meeting 2025. The campaign promotes learning CPR to help anyone struck by cardiac arrest.

"Red Roses" - sorry we shortened for Bluesky brevity ;)
womensinstitute.bsky.social
Now all eyes are on the "Roses", England Rugby's team in the Women's Rugby World Cup. Northamptonshire Federation of WIs are getting into the spirit, having spent a year creating yarnbomb murals to line a mile (!!!) of streets leading to the Franklin's Garden Stadium! Amazing work. #Yarnbombing
A WI member attaches knitted women's faces to some railing. WI members erect a huge yarned mural onto fencing. It appears to be of a rugby stadium and grounds. Yarned murals lining gated fencing showing the Women's Rugy World Cup match listings and the flags of the countries.

Calling all @womensinstitute.bsky.social Essex members! I still have two talks to go at these fantastic branches of The W.I. in August and September this year. I hope to see you there! 💚💚💚

The WI are proud partners / supporters and signatories of this campaign. We've been campaigning for decades on the climate and environment, and our legion of Climate Ambassadors are calling time on Gov, and policy makers.
A letter / full page advert printed in The Guardian signed by multiple NGOs and organisations, including The WI. It calls for the UK to implement a bold and fair climate plan.

These are beautiful, Vicky, but we hope the WI is being welcoming to you - a disability certainly shouldn't prevent you being a member, or indeed of a virtual WI if easier for you? Let us know if we can support.

It was an honour to present our work on #microplastics in rivers to the APPG on microplastics in Westminster last week chaired by Alberto Costa MP with reps from @womensinstitute.bsky.social & various organisations. Excellent discussion on how to limit microplastics entering the environment.

Come and say hello.

NFWI-Wales: We were delighted to have a stand at the Everywoman Festival in Cardiff on Saturday. We shared resources relating to our health campaigns, and contributed to a panel debate on gender-based violence. Thank you to WI member Nicola Awni from Gwent Federation who shared her lived experience

Low table surrounded by 6 armchairs with Womens Institute and Environmental Change Institute banners in the background. Located in Oxford University Museum of Natural History - a beautiful Victorian temple to science. Display boards with a series of questions about climate leadership - e.g. 'what does climate leadership look like' - surrounding a central collection of answers written on vertical coloured strips of paper, weaved into a display.

We are thrilled to confirm that our lifesaving proposal is to become the new national campaign for @womensinstitute.bsky.social
The WI has been such an important campaigning body for over a century, & to think that Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers, will become part of that- wow!
Very happy members of Margate WI stand together on the seafront with their WI flag, a defibrillator and other lifesaving themed items.
womensinstitute.bsky.social
Wow - @margatewi.bsky.social's resolution passed with an enormous majority! 97.7% of members voted through Bystanders can be Lifesavers - a new campaign for 25/26; championing CPR skills, esp tackling reticence to cut or remove women's bras in order to giving life-saving help for heart attacks!
