We're into October so time once again to post the greatest cinematic Halloween party, as James Hong, Michael Wong and the cast of the Bold and the Beautiful jam out to 16 bit chiptunes in The Vineyard while Hong mewls like a cat

I don't think there are that many Tron haters, they just hate Jared Leto cause he's a sleazy fucker who shags underage girls.

I think of this as contemporary too but holy shit it is nearly 30 years old

#NowWatching CURE (1997). Director: Kiyoshi Kurasowa. Koji Yakusho, Tsuyoshi Ujiki.

Seemingly unmotivated murders are linked by their savagery & one cop's pursuit of the truth may be his undoing. Rewatching a fave of contemporary Japanese horror.

I once saw Ash, The Divine Comedy, Travis and Space for £3.60. TBF the price was purposely the minimum wage at the time but talk about value for money. It was before Travis were shit too, when they were a glam rock band (yes that was actually a thing)

I might watch Tom Yum Going 2 tonight! Expectations are suitably lowered, but hopefully I'll still have some fun with it.

Haha it might be worth 5 bucks for a laugh! It's not a great movie though. Fun enough but pretty stupid.

God damn. I was tempted but the shipping to Japan is almost as much as the disc....

This is so much "Tony Jaa is the new Jackie Chan" and the thing is? It actually works as that. It's so much of a step up from Ong Bak it's unreal.

#NowWatching The Protector AKA Warrior King AKA Tom Yum Goong (2006 Prachya Pinkaew) I had totally forgotten that this was 80 minutes long. Also I'm on a Tony Jaa kick. Perfect!

I've owned The Protector 2 (and Ong Bak 2 and 3 for that matter) for about 10 years. Why have I never watched them? Afraid of the inevitable disappointment?
wonggifs.bsky.social
It was definitely awesome in my extremely drunk/stoned late teens!
wonggifs.bsky.social
Yep, that's how I came away from it. Those effects are really something though.

It's so good! Mike Patton has an amazing voice.

It's astonishing that I would be agreeing with Michael Heseltine of all people but the Overton window has shifted so far I guess he's one of the most left leaning politicians now

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I did like that most of them are like "what the fuck are you saying?!" until the little girl translates.

Somehow, Rumpelstiltskin is not on Tubi, despite being the most Tubi coded movie I can think of. Just watch a Leprachaun movie and imagine him on a motorbike, smoking a cigar and cracking-wise.

Rumpelstiltskin: a faithful take on the old fairytale

#NowWatching Pumpkinhead (1988 Stan Winston) First time watch for me. Is this a bit of a classic? Passed me by, I was more of a Rumpelstitskin duder in my youth.

Maybe the scariest cinema experience I ever had! I remember my girlfriend literally jumping out of her seat flailing her hands in the air at one point.

He is very good! Oddly out of place with the tone of the rest of the movie but Anderson is a simple man, or maybe just a simpleton.
