The bigger issue for me is poison and disease. Your run is just dead on arrival if you get poisoned early on- lost my first character to that.

Imps can actually be hurt by anything steel or better, so you could also pick the steel daikatana or silver staff at creation, or just find a steel weapon in privateer's hold (very possible). Or just run past it and leave the dungeon! Takes a little trial and error to learn the way, but doable.
