I think it’s pretty inspiring how the Olympics are bringing people from all over the world together to boo at JD Vance everywhere he goes.

The parts of this about tear gas are really interesting. It’s so much worse than I ever assumed. ICE agents rolling tear gas canisters under occupied cars or shooting them in people’s faces are committing attempted murder IMO open.spotify.com/episode/0tbM...

Reading about the WaPo layoffs I’m reminded of when I worked at a company with many ex-Amazon employees and they talked about how people there would be crying, because making people cry was part of the management approach.

Good summary of the supreme cowardice of the Roberts Supreme Court. At a moment that calls for principles, we've got a bank of simpering toadies afraid to displease their king. Roberts will be remembered as the man who destroyed the Court's credibility.

Waking up listening to a playlist of 70s music so I need to say "FREE BIRD!" Thank you.

OK so MAGA is mad that an American sporting event has an American recording artist who's one of the most popular acts among Americans, because this is all very un-American? These people are so weird.

@vanhollen.senate.gov I’m really concerned by what we are hearing from Schumer about the funding deal. It sounds like his usual caving at the moment Dems have leverage due to public outrage. If it’s as anemic as it sounds we are counting on you to vote NO.
January 30, 2026 at 12:23 AM
Senate Dems are already caving. I swear to god if they vote for something that doesn’t include criminal prosecutions for the murders if Good & Pritti, removal of Noem, require that ICE crimes are investigated by local law enforcement, and the end of deportation quotas, I’m never voting D again.

I get that banks, credit cards, etc. are concerned with security but logging into accounts is becoming such a clusterfuck. Enter your ID/password - "you need a passkey and you don't have one! Scan this QR code on your mobile device!" "No not that device, a different one!" WTF.

So apparently the new owners of the US part of TikTok are massively throttling political posts that are critical of ICE. Who’d have thought? It almost makes you think relying on corporate networks to keep us connected is a bad idea.
January 27, 2026 at 10:20 AM
Before everybody gets too excited about ICE backing off in Minneapolis we should consider that this is entirely to make it harder for Dems to vote against ICE funding. It’s a feint. Dems better not be dumb enough to think their work is done.

Why we need good journalists - what a missed moment! This should have turned to convo to “wait, this is a stunning change in GOP policy around 2A! Tell us more! What changed the president’s thinking about this?” And then we would have seen Kash shit his pants on air.
Kash Patel: "You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It's that simple. You don't have a right to break the law." (Pretti was carrying a gun legally.)

Maybe I’m old fashioned but I think the director of the FBI should be familiar with US gun laws.

@wmata.com @wmatagm.bsky.social Metro, I beg you, please make old fashioned bus timetables available on your web site. Yeah I'm old but the classic paper timetable that told you the frequencies/times for both directions 7 days a week were really useful! On your web site....

Seems to me that if you’re in a state with a stand your ground law, and an ICE agent came running toward you, if you shot them in the face you’d have a decent chance of getting way with it.
January 25, 2026 at 3:25 AM
In theory the idea that simply carrying a gun (not displaying, pointing it at anyone, etc) isn’t reason to kill that person should not sit well with the 2nd Amendment crowd (who lean strongly republican). Are they really down with the idea that carrying a gun makes killing you ok?
January 25, 2026 at 3:10 AM
@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social so you guys found a way to keep ICE $ flowing and ICE agents executing people in the streets of an American city. Are you proud?
January 24, 2026 at 5:44 PM
So finally did it and made the jump to an EV, and I think there's an argument that incentives for them aren't needed because they're REALLY GOOD. I know MAGA hates things that don't kill anybody, but future Americans will probably like their Chinese-made cars.

This Planet Money piece on how trump has been using the presidency to enrich himself and his family is a great listen. We all know he’s doing this but hearing someone run the numbers makes it clear that this is while level of corruption we’ve not see before in the US. www.npr.org/2026/01/14/n...

Hypothesis: people on Bluesky post things like a screenshot of some social post without saying who it’s from or why the context is as a way to signal “I’m so dialed in, if you’re not, you’re a loser.” Maybe uncharitable but maybe why this place feels increasingly like X minus Nazis.

Can we stop called what ICE does “immigration enforcement?” There are now more ICE agents than cops in Minneapolis. What we are seeing is the federal government invading an American city because the the locals don’t support him. It’s unlikely to be the only place this happens.
January 15, 2026 at 3:22 AM
ICE just shot someone else in Minneapolis, and apparently they are now carrying long guns with rounds designed to bounce around inside the body to cause maximum damage
Why the hell are they armed with 5.56? Those rounds travel at 3200fps - they should not be used in urban areas, way too much risk of collateral damage. Cosplay assholes!
