having international editions is a huge privilege that helped immensely, but the bulk of my copies were sold in the U.S. so far. THIS ENDS IN EMBERS isn't out yet internationally, so we might see a bump in international sales when they have the whole duology too.

for me, specifically, earning out included not just sales in the U.S. but the total of the advances and sales from the international editions of my book (canada, uk, france, poland, germany, spain, brazil).

they email it but i saw a tweet by Roseanne A. Brown and went into my author portal to check. but these two things combined are why most authors have multiple jobs. publishing doesn't usually pay quickly or consistently

in addition, my royalty statement covers the period from january 2025 to june 2025. not only did i earn out in this period but i also earned royalties already. however, it's october 2025; i have yet to receive my check and didn't know i'd earned out until i checked my statement.

first, you don't get your advance all at once. i got some on signing, some when the manuscript went to copyedits, some when the book came out, and some 12 months after publication. yes, this means that despite selling this book in 2022, i actually have not received my entire advance yet

and is stepping aside while you find someone who does. all of publishing is a waiting game, but when i was querying people were saying dragons were overdone and right before we sold the book fourth wing came out and dragons were hot again. don't be discouraged by this rejection <3
