I think the characters were handled well enough, with the exception of Rose. What dogshit writing. Why does she sound so annoyed with John's antics? Where's her whimsy? She's supposed to be silly, but dresses it up with intellectual and macabre flair. Now she's just... moody goth girl. Blech.

Seems like that was a time where lots of people were insecure about games being art, so they felt the need to heap praise on plot-heavy games like this one, even though these "dramas" were about as shallow as they got.
They weren't fun to play either, so you got the worst of both worlds!
