you don't need parallel universes and multiverses. you can always just make a character who just so happens to be very similar to the protagonist but different in a meaningful way. or an older brother

so maybe it is in part about money, but it's about because the writers fell in love with her. they wrote her telling them to move on, but they can't. they broke the promise and they keep bringing her back
