Whoa, so I'm googling, and apparently bic ink contains some of the same chemicals as pheromones that termites have. Fascinating stuff

But, yes, ladybug poop does smell like bic ink! Bic also tastes buggy. Hm

Ladybugs don't have much of a smell too me, their poop certainly does. I've never noticed any smell from fruit flies. Most bug only really notice a smell if they poop or get squished

If we can't accept disagreement or divergent approaches on those non-essential points, we really limit the number of functional relationships we can have

Being more self-assured, I don't need to convince myself that they are wrong or convince them that I am right. We can functionally engage with a pretty minimal set of points we agree on

I'm finding this applies both romantically, and in broader social contexts. I'm also much less put-off by difference, because I don't need to change it or have it change me. Like, it's chill if another organizer annoys me, or I annoy them, we don't need to enjoy eachother to do good work together.

In my 30s, "opposites attract" rings false. I'm less interested in connecting with people unlike myself, perhaps because I like myself. I don't need to be completed, I want collaborators.

I dreamed I was late for your birthday ride! Which, to be fair, I very much am.

I would speculate that our mistake is more likely to be allowing fash reactionaries a single inch of breathing room, and contorting ourselves into milquetoast performances of queerness we deluded ourselves that they may "come around" to accepting

Thinking about this a fair bit around approaches to Pride in (another) new dawn of backlash to queerness. Do some of us believe our mistake was asking for too much?
