I was looking for info about ferries and checked what else was in the news that day.

From December 15, 1860 issue of the Springfield Republican, early in the Secession Crisis. Sure enough, the paper quotes an Alabama commissioner citing "an abolition government" as their motive to secede.

In rural Massachusetts, there's the Route 2 Standout in Gill, overpass standouts over I-91 (changes location daily/weekly, but always in Franklin County and organized by the same group). The Historical Society of Greenfield shared the photo below of their city's No Kings II Rally.

Came across this report by a small Massachusetts town's Board of Health in 1920. Sound familiar?

I compared that year's reports by the board of health and truancy officer and to say the town was the healthiest on record is an exaggeration. Reports from 1917 to 1919 are missing.
Gentlemen: I hereby submit my annual report for the Board of Health, town of South Hadley. In the early part of the winter of 1920 we had our second influenza epidemic, but with that exception, the town has experienced the healthiest year in the history of the Board of Health. There has been very little contagious disease of any kind. During the summer the infant mortality was very low; and since the fall, sickness in general throughout the town has been much less than it has for a number of years. In fact, with the exception of a small epidemic of chicken-pox there has been no contagious disease worth speaking of.

We were in traffic for 16 hours and my body still hurts from the drive, but seeing the eclipse in totality was priceless. We drove up to the source of the Connecticut River. Since most of our route had no wi-fi, we checked out a ten CDs from the library and listened to them along the way.

From Wikipedia: The designation "Sooner" initially had a very negative connotation. While "Boomers" were merely expressing "pioneer spirit" in their desire to take and settle former Indian territory, Sooners were essentially stealing from other white settlers by cheating on the claim requirements to get better land.
