Here's the thing I've been thinking about in terms of the manga and one of the reasons why the animated adaptation just doesn't quite do it for me: you cannot get this kind of wacky, sudden page turn, abrupt explosion of imagery with a traditional approach to pacing, build-up, and musical cues.
