How do you decide whether or not to use AI tools in your research? One approach is to judge the extent to which they align with the values that underpin your research - in this open access paper we look at this question of alignment. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

We have learnt a lot over the course of our knowledge exchange activity this year and have made some invaluable new links with practitioners and academics.

More to come!

Yesterday evening we delivered the third and final workshop of our Knowledge Exchange series: ‘Language and the cross-examination of vulnerable witnesses’. We were hosted at The Law Society, a fitting venue for us to share ideas and perspectives with stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

We are very grateful for the time that legal professionals afford us in discussing our research and the valuable relationships we build in that process. Thanks again to NTU's Institute for Knowledge Exchange Practice for supporting these events.

We had rich discussions with leading Scottish lawyers and judges around current practice and training in the questioning of vulnerable people and the judicial management of such trials. Lots for us to reflect on and think about as we continue with our research.

I’ve had a brilliantly informative and thought-provoking two days at the University of Birmingham with legal scholars from across the UK and Ireland focusing on research relating to the treatment of vulnerable witnesses and defendants at all parts of the criminal justice system.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to spend this beautiful day at the University of York giving a talk as part of their Linguistics Colloquium series. I was talking about the extent to which adaptions to cross-examination do help vulnerable witnesses give their “best evidence”.
