I remember flowing to the sea
and meeting your rising tide.

Together our current was chaotic,
the brackish water a slow drip of poison for the sedges,
stunting the live oaks and birch.

I remember mud, mucking,
silt in my shoes, heavy, ruinous.

Trapped by your overwhelming flow,

The water seeps into the bones here, turning them into a pliable, soft cartilage. Dropping from overfed clouds and rising from reluctant springs, the water falls and climbs through hollow frames, pressed out of the bodies as steam or resignation. #amwriting #experimentalfiction #DownRiver
