my ADHD finds clearing away and washing dishes soothing, and dishwashers failing to actually clean all the crud of dishes quite frustrating.
people should do as they prefer, trying to justify the choice as practically or environmentally preferable is ludicrous.

these studies assume that one hand washes dishes with the tap constantly running, that there is no cost to rewashing dishes, and that crud that doesn't wash off either is sterile or is always noticed and washed off when redone. the first is not common in cultures where hand-washing is more common.
