Not your typical middle aged white guy. Proud to be a woke, liberal atheist.

My deeply understood facts are better than your deeply held religious beliefs
I'm atheist. In a nutshell, so to speak, that means I don't buy your sales pitch. You're trying to sell me on the idea of your particular god or religion, and I'm saying your sales pitch is wanting.

That's it. Dress it up however you like, but it's all mental masturbation from your end.

This seems really pointless. The question shouldn't even be entertained, as it inherently presumes a god to exist.

Yeah, when they get done with foreigners and trans people, they're coming for us atheists. I've been trying to sound the alarm, but I'm a nobody in the grand scheme, so others are gonna have to organize. I'll join the fight when the time comes, though.

Championship teams aren't built by picking up other teams' leavings.
December 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Can we please stop picking up other teams' leaving? That's not how championship teams are built.

If you're expecting creativity or courage from the Reds front office, well, you're much more optimistic than I am.

I feel like watching this lecture might prove insightful for you. Sapolsky is a respected Stanford neurologist and comes at this topic from a secular point of view.

I think it's a little different than that. Average people who aren't terrible are leaving Christianity in droves, leaving behind all the awful people who want to use their version of adult make believe to inflict terrible harm upon anyone who doesn't validate their beliefs.
December 14, 2025 at 5:45 PM
Everyone has an opinion. If pixies were a pervasive bad idea that some used to justify harmful actions against others, there would likely be people out there calling themselves apixists.
December 14, 2025 at 5:31 PM
I call it socially reinforced adult make believe.

But that's no reason to celebrate the deaths of people who have fallen victim to that. (Or to harm them in the first place.)

Of course, leaders who have engaged in genocide should be tried and punished harshly upon conviction for their crimes.
December 14, 2025 at 5:00 PM
No one should be on the receiving end of harm for falling victim to bad ideas.
December 14, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Christianity, like all religion, is socially reinforced adult make believe.

I would love for Patel to come for me as well. I'll tie them up in the courts for years. And make them pay me for the trouble.

(It's also worth noting that "love" is an involuntary biochemical reaction in the brain, over which we have little to no control.)
December 13, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Third, your example of paying someone to fall in love isn't a parallel to the question at hand. Instead, you should be asking if you could pay someone to come to the belief that someone else was in love with them (despite no outward demonstration of that love from the other person).
December 13, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Would paying someone to develop a sincere belief -- and resulting relationship -- with Xenu be just as valid as a sincere belief in the Christian god? And if so, wouldn't that, ironically, invalidate the results since the target god in question doesn't matter?
December 13, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Second, why are we only discussing the Christian god, when my atheism extends to all god-claims made by humans? Why not Vishnu? Or Thor? Or Xenu?

A few thoughts from this life long atheist...

First, tell me how one knows the difference between me "having a relationship with God" and me "imagining I'm having a relationship with God?" Even if my belief was sincere, it could still be misguided.

The Reds organization is run by losers.

What's needed is more executives who are hard drinkers. No telling how many deals were made by half drunk GMs

This entire debacle is why I'm leaving my Reds fandom behind when they trade Elly to the Dodgers.

Hundreds of the best professional baseball development minds just collectively smacked their heads, exclaiming, "why didn't we think of such an obvious idea?"
