Everyone blames Xbox directly for their hardware performance this gen, but this is the kind of stuff that breaks containment from "core gamers" directly into the mass market - this hit my phone notifications directly.

R* going with a free upgrade path for the updated RDR remaster, even as far back as digital 360 owners, is pretty fkn great.
I mean, this kind of thing should be expected imo, but in today's you'll-pay-for-upgrades landscape (ahem Nintendo), credit where it's due. Builds great brand affinity!

A lot of Xbox strategy changes might make more sense to you through this lens:
Xbox is de-emphasising console and leaning into publishing/services/ecosystem/library/PC for growth, meaning that their primary 'competitor' in that opportunity space is not PlayStation or Nintendo, it's Steam.

Jokes aside - the console space was/is so fucking toxic against Xbox that this (the smoking Xbox) was actual real "gaming news" that blew up all over the blogs etc. Same with the ping pong ball "hovering" over the fan.
I think hardware sales might've gone differently for Xbox if they could've figured out whatever design flaw led to this unfortunate situation.

Poor cross gen support broadly too - every new game that comes out, I'm checking to see if there's S2 support and so many are like "coming soon"tm
Nothing against the Switch 2, but the library needs to grow a bit more to make it worth it. Other than DK Bonanza, and Mario Kart World, every other game I'm interested in is already available on another system. I'm sure it will have some unique bangers by this time next year though.
