Every year, I rediscover the Welsh tradition of the Meri Lywd, and once again find myself thinking 'Wow, that'd be fucking terrifying out of context!'
The holiday season was in full swing in the town of Timberwood. Fanelle was stuck working her family's pub like always. It was a rather slow day that day, typical for a Wednesday at O'Freyers, and since it was starting to get pretty late, she figured she'd close up early for the night. The booths were empty still, Her menorah was displayed proudly on the counter right behind her, and she was busy cleaning the last mug before she closed the bar down. Unbeknownst to her, there was a tall figure standing on the other side of the bar, waiting for her to notice. "Oh!" She softly exclaimed as she whipped her head to greet the creature she'd briefly seen from the corner of her peripheral vision "G'day en' welcome to O'Freyers! How may i..." Her friendly greeting quickly melted away into utter horror when she looked into the metallic eyes of this hooded creature that was towering over her, swaying and clattering its skeletal grin in the most unsettling way possible. Its lumbering body was shrouded beneath a pale robe, the only thing protruding out being its head, which was nothing more than the skull of a mare with golden ornaments that were shoved into the eye sockets. This visit was actually a rather benevolent one, as she was being visited by the jolly and playful Meri Lywd, a singing horse skeleton that goes door to door, trying to sing it's way into your home to steal your food an liquor around the holiday season. "G'day to you, my celtic friend!" She chanted, dancing along in a jolly manner with a voice as festive as a bar full of old friends, "I come to see if you could lend a pint or two of your finest brew for this Meri Lywd from across the bend!" Fanelle responds to the Meri Lywd, singing "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"
