Ex-Hurricane Gabrielle’s remnants have the potential to unleash catastrophic amounts of rain (+450mm locally according to the AROME model) across parts of the Valencian Community by tomorrow morning. Life-threatening flash flooding is a major concern. Please refer to official warnings.

A Category 5 monster.

Hi Christophe, I’ll keep it in mind! I didn’t have time to go any further than that in the process this time! Here is the “after” image, showing a zoomed-out view of the Iberian Peninsula for reference. Cheers.

Spain is having its worst year for wildfires.

In terms of square kilometers burned, the 2025 season far outstrips all previous years.

Many fires are still active.

Unbelievable footage from NOAA’s Hurricane Hunters inside the eye of Hurricane Erin.

Simply incredible.

Just dreadful satellite imagery of the rapidly escalating wildfire outbreak across parts of northern Portugal and western Spain.

Look at the size of that smoke plume!

Historic heatwave unfolding in France.

Bordeaux just observed its hottest day on record with a provisional 41.6°C (107°F) — data since 1920. Red level extreme heat warnings are in force for the south of the country.

Sadly, this heatwave is far from over...

The ongoing, potentially record-breaking heatwave in southern France could last longer than previously thought, according to the latest ECMWF ensemble.

From record-breaking warmth to slightly below-average sea surface temperatures, this map highlights the remarkable cool-down that occurred in just one month in the western Mediterranean Sea. *Internal variability*

This is unbelievable.

The high temperature at one of Finland’s northernmost weather stations, in the municipality of Sodankylä (Lapland region) within the Arctic Circle at latitude 67.3°N, reached at least 25°C for 26 days in a row.

Records date back to 1908.

We just witnessed Japan's hottest day in recorded history again: 41.8°C (107.2°F).

The longevity and intensity of this historic heatwave is hard to comprehend.

Last month was the most anomalous in recorded history for temperatures in Japan.

Almost 3°C above the 1991-2020 average.

Records date back to 1898.

20 straight days with 30 °C in Finland! Truly unprecedented heatwave still in full swing with maximum today about 32-33 degrees.

Even the Arctic regions (e.g. Sodankylä Tähtelä) have seen three weeks above 25 °C, and may rival tomorrow their August heat records.
Forecast 2-m temperatures today in Finland, based on the MEPS regional model.

A weather station in Storforshei, Norway, on the edge of the Arctic Circle, has now hit 30°C (86°F) or greater for 12 consecutive days.

Let that sink in.

I’m having trouble finding stations with long PORs in this region, unfortunately.

Max. of 38.2°C today at Bihoro (美幌), Hokkaido with a possibility of exceeding 40°C tomorrow. We'll see.

This particular weather station opened in 2011 right?

So far in 2025, wildfires have burned more than 450 km² of land across the UK, surpassing anything seen in recent years by a wide margin.

The UK wildfire season typically peaks in spring; however, worsening drought conditions are making summer fires increasingly common.

Hi Erwan, if you don’t mind me asking, could you let me know where exactly you’re retrieving the archived buoy temperature data from?
