Good evening from the Al Mansour hotel Baghdad Iraq 🇮🇶

Yours truly has been invited to take part in a conference hosted by the Iraq Council of Ministers over the next couple of days

While it's definitely warm here it's still beginning to look a lot like....

I used to look north when I was in Syria 🇸🇾 and see the planes fly around Iraq 🇮🇶and over Turkey 🇹🇷

It left a feeling that we were 'the others' and didn't matter.
While passenger planes fly across the skies over Europe, in Ukraine the skies are filled with Russian missiles and drones. One continent, but two different realities.

Yours truly is en route to Baghdad via Amman Jordan, from Erbil Kurdistan Iraq, and listening to this audiobook.

Originally published in 1916 this classic by Frank Harris, Oscar Wilde His Life and Confessions, is brilliantly written.

Something to remember.

There are many 'fronts' in a hybrid war against the Russian Empire.

Family members were getting ready to cut the cake at a toddler’s birthday party when the gunfire started inside a banquet hall packed with relatives and friends in California.

“I actually thought it was my balloons popping. It was gunshots,” the birthday girl’s mother said. https://cnn.it/4own3Rg

A new mural has appeared in Ternopil, dedicated to children killed in Russia’s attack.

The artwork, showing a child shielding her toys from a Russian missile, was created by artist Andriy Yermolenko. He described it as “a cry for help to the global community.”

Finally got a chance to get some socially distanced steps in.

But for the vast majority of the people here electricity has not returned yet, three days after the bombing of the power station. This is a major struggle...

The ending of 50+ years of the Al Assad dictatorship, and 13 years of brutal war, was something that I could not, never, have envisaged when I left Syria in June 2024.

Ten years of my life revolved around this war

The fact that it's over is still overwhelming to be honest 🥹🕊

Doubt there are too many Iraqi friends on here but on the off chance I thought I'd share.

The rules of the region have to be respected when you're the approved training provider for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Hence only Iraqis can partake.

Have a great day folks.

Felt like a bit of a tool, bit long in the tooth for this malarkey but here we are.

After the attack on the gas power plant last night in Sulymaniyah large areas of Kurdistan are without power.

Only generator power is available, for those of us in modern apartments we are the lucky ones.

For the rest of the people they have no electricity.
