When I played D&D—AS A KID IN THE 80S—we mostly used it as a vehicle to do whatever we wanted, rules be damned.

Which is to say, as someone who would be slightly younger than the actual Stranger Things kids, go wild, have fun, include everyone. You’ve got my OG imprimatur.
A game where you can do anything and they’re mad that people are doing anything.

Hooray - I’ve got the theme of this week’s Listener, and almost all the solutions. Now I just need to work out how to actually do the gridfill.

I'm very excited about the excellent puzzles we've got lined up for Issue 2, coming out in January.

Setters this time will be:

That's 8 standard cryptics, an alphabetical jigsaw, and a barred thematic. Fun!

Listening to this whilst solving some puzzles.

I had to wait until @archelina.bsky.social's away because this record is a bit much for her:

I signed up to @mossdef.bsky.social's Patreon earlier this week.

Just did the latest puzzle - "Cover Story" - really clever and good fun.

I'd recommend signing up if you like variety/thematic cryptics:

Obviously the reddit post is pretty tongue-in-cheek but it's a valid request to have more up-to-date references in puzzles.
I'd argue that plenty of people do this already, though maybe not enough and not in some of the key places where people first encounter cryptics...
There's a discussion on /r/crosswords to come up with some modern #cryptic clues - that aren't targeted at people over the age of 70.
www.reddit.com/r/crosswords...

I've made a couple of offerings. TBD if they're even solvable...

Great fun, recommended. I've not actually finished it yet but the clues I've managed are great. Looking forward to getting stuck in again after a good night's kip.

Tutivillus Is Watching You

For medieval scribes, mistakes couldn’t be easily shrugged off, as Tutivillus, the stickler demon, was always looking over their shoulders.
