He/They. Ex-Big tech IT/Cloud Infrastructure expert. All things nerd, probably talking about cybersecurity, scifi, general social and black issues. But I honestly have no theme. I'm just here. Anarcho-leftie cypherpunk vibes.
My current biggest Arch peeve is that it's hostile to the Rustup toolchain. As in, use the official Rust install script and everything is fine, until some package needs Rust and despite it being there, it forces the rust repo package, then you get blindsided by conflicting fucky behavior.

It's funny how knowledgeable LLMs are about every subject except the ones I know well, where they're suddenly misinformed or hallucinating random things. Funny coincidence.

Unpaid internships are back bay-bee! I was just saying the other day how I miss being exploited for my youth.

I think it's funny how we all kept misplacing our keys and so we casually decided it's normal and right to have a global commercial surveillance system administered by strangers both corporate and individual and invented tile trackers and apple tags. And I still misplace my keys.

I'm just gonna come out and admit it... I don't actually understand Zettelkasten, but it would benefit me somehow...? I've watched some video tutorials and some guides and I'm still... *shrugs*

Once again on this, the superior daylight savings, I ask that we just stop here and not increase my risk of heart attack in the spring? Please and thanks for your attention to this matter.

Cute chubby cheeks are often just (still) cute weak chins without the benefit of a beard.

What ever happened to those people trying to replace pi with tau? Were they ever taken seriously? I vaguely remember the movement but not the argument. Blast from the internet past.

I don't care about nostalgia anymore. My best years are ahead of me.

I’m so thoroughly bored with the internet that I might have to stop consuming and start writing again. Shake off a decade+ of cobwebs and just write random shit for my own gratification. I feel like I could maybe get into creative non-fiction this time. Or just whatever. I’ve come full circle.

Fun fact, my youtube account which was created in 2007 using an old gmail account established in 2006 (so literally 18 and 19 years old) has just been restricted because Google can't verify I'm not under age... Truly brilliant AI systems they have. Thankfully it's my trash account that I don't need.

Microsoft will never stop because you spew mad hate for every single version of Windows and then complain endlessly for every upgrade. From their standpoint you all just complain and then “love” the one going end of life. I remember the Windows 10 hate. Now y’all crying. Want them to change? Leave!

I think I regret choosing proxmox... I'm not sure yet. But I'm definitely not happy with the whole setup. Perhaps it's time to nuke it all and re-architect my home lab.

You know you’re reading litrpg when everything is “inexorable” and all will is “indomitable”. Like they’re all reading the same thesaurus. And they’re only using “inexorable” properly half the time.

The Manly Naming Department of the Combat Forces of The Department of War!

That’s what you sound like with this shit.

"US Space Force Combat Forces Command"… because we are led by 11 year olds

With google admitting the open web is rapidly in decline, I must once again implore everyone to carve out their own little corner of it. Learn to host your own little thing. Bring back blogs. Join decentralized and federated services. Revisit the old greats like irc. Pirate (but support creators).

Deceit is a legitimate tool of a statecraft, however unfortunate that may be. Or so I'm told.

It’s okay to admit both that the members of the applied rationality movement have many useful tools you should adopt, and that they should be thrown off a cliff for everyone’s sake.

No. Look, I'll make a deal. If you remove the crypto and get-rich-quick scam ads and the literal malware, maybe I'll consider it. If you want people to not use adblock, moderate your fucking advertisements.

Until you do, no dice, the adblock is staying on.

The lack of differentiation between trusted and untrusted state and input is endlessly devilish in trying to secure this technology. It completely violates all security paradigms we've tried to enforce for coming on half a century
NEW: In a likely first, security researchers have shown how generative AI agents can be hijacked to cause physical consequences.

They tricked Google's Gemini AI into turning off smart home lights, opening windows, and turning on a boiler.

They hid instructions to the AI in a *calendar invitation*
Hackers Hijacked Google’s Gemini AI With a Poisoned Calendar Invite to Take Over a Smart Home
For likely the first time ever, security researchers have shown how AI can be hacked to create real world havoc, allowing them to turn off lights, open smart shutters, and more.

“…looked like a giant single-headed Hydra.” So… a dragon. Some authors do the most for no reason. (The fact that they gave no further description implies it looked like the classic image of a Hydra).
