And yes, this machine is getting the DiamondCrash because as of right now there are so few Sil3112s to go around that I need to keep them to machines I plan to daily.

I’m keeping my call for a driver disc or something open because I could well be missing a critical piece that needs to be there for this to work under 98. Nothing amiss in device manager, unfortunately.

Would love to see this work in 98 fully, eventually.

I mean, 98 runs fine on this machine! But the party trick is the point, otherwise I’d throw this duty to one of the Shuttle XPCs in the garage!

*BLARGH*

For the love of all that is holy why is the MSI Radio package 98 compatible if it doesn’t actually work on 98?!

As of right now my plan is to just install XP and see how far I get, even though I want this to be a 98 machine.

Also firmware updaters that require an internet connection are the goddamned devil and I'm surprised MSI did this in an era where internet was not guaranteed.

Hmmm. Looking at those gave me an idea though. Appreciate the links!

Sadly those seem to just mirror MSI’s drivers on their site. :( I’m actually probably going to toss XP on here on a temporary basis to see if I have any better luck there, but I’m not super hopeful.

As of now I’m trying to get the FM radio talking to Win98 but I’m missing a couple drivers and I’m assuming that one of those is needed for it to work. MSI’s site has some drivers but they’re not complete.

I’m assuming there was a disc with the PC. At least I hope there was.

I think I found the issue. It communicates over I2C and far as I know Win98 isn’t really aware of the radio even existing, potentially due to incomplete drivers.

Odd that the Radio app doesn’t throw an error of any sort, it just…kinda hangs out.
November 29, 2025 at 4:37 AM
Did that from the start and sadly no dice. I mean the MSI Radio app acts like it's doing SOMETHING but no audio passes through. Feh.

It’s a MSI Mega 651. I have the MSI radio package but it seems to not include drivers? I could be wrong but it seems that way.

It’s a Bluebird FM module, if I recall. Though googling for that brings up a LOT of irrelevant stuff.

I know Cathode Ray Dude covered a similar model, too…

(I do also appreciate Prusa doing upgrade kits for their printers. The Bambu P2S is a nice QoL upgrade but not worth buying a whole new printer if you’ve got a P1S. But were it Prusa there would probably be a kit to bring a P1S up to a P2S. That would have been cool.)

If money were no object I’d happily ditch both my printers and grab a Core One L, but that’s close to two whole thousand dollars so that’s no more than a daydream to me.

The only crime it ever committed was that it was slow.

My Bambu A1, by comparison? It’s fast, it does multicolor, but it feels significantly more sensitive to the environment it’s in, and the dryness of the filament. Such that I ended up having to get a P1S to print in the more humid months.
