I guess The Verge has gone behind a full paywall now? Because this is just another article of many from different sites today about Spotify increasing prices, and it wants me to pay for it?

Also, so much for “metered”, quite literally the first Verge article I’ve tried to read this month.

Alright, maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about. Got in a conversation and remembering saying my middle school and high school (early-mid 2000s) used some DOS-based recordkeeping software, and I can't remember the name of it, and Google naturally is useless. Anyone remember what it was?

also a version of the infamous rule on twitter

"every hour, hacker news talks about someone. the goal is to never be that someone"

is it like, gonna be a trend now that people in the foss tech space just crash the fuck out and lash out at anyone they don't like in an unprofessional manner mullenweg-style

So yeah I’m kinda just posting the Cube everywhere so if you see it around the interwebs and do a double take, yeah, that’s probably me.

The G4 Cube is finally finished in time for #VCFSoCal.

This is one of those few times where the vision and final product definitely lined up better than I thought and I’m happy.

CANCEL THAT. Kai Robinson of Tinker Different spotted the cooler on UK eBay and graciously offered to grab it and reship it to me. Absolute savior.

Have I said I love this community? Because boy, I love the lot of y’all and am thankful you exist.
Putting out a #retrocomputing bounty, here:

Searching for the proper cooler that goes with the Shuttle FA76 motherboard. It’s pictured below.

The usual Intel ones are too short and don’t use the same hole pattern. And sadly, those seem to be the most common ones.

Me: “modern tech kinda sucks with all this AI bullshit”

Random person: “but yet, you participated in it by buying a new phone last year. Curious. Phones have been fine for 8 years, you had no reason.”

…I really wish I could bring my 15 Pro back and make these people use it for a week, I really do.

I guess I did as the cool kids do and made my own discord

also gods can I just say trying to get pharmacies and my insurance to sing in unison when it comes to diabetic testing stuff has been a real pain in the dick and THIS is why I just buy the cheap walmart stuff and take the hit to my wallet

'cause we're having a real spider-man pointing moment here

it's fun in the worst way

people were already complaining about this console gen feeling like a nothingburger because previous gen dragged on so long

well, we're entering another (manufactured, this time) silicon shortage, so current gen is likely to go on until well into the 2030s

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “but you’re making your devices insecure!” In response to me saying I don’t take updates anymore, I could probably afford to buy a Prusa printer.

Further, my response is always:

I
Don’t
Give

Fuck

So, good news: a potential replacement Shuttle board has been secured. The bad news is that it requires a wildly different cooler and modifications are going to have to be made but I think it’ll work out in the end.

The person who made this possible is good at this stuff, so here’s hoping.

I already hated Epic but now I hate them that much more. Good fucking lord.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney argues banning Twitter over its ability to AI-generate pornographic images of minors is just 'gatekeepers' attempting to 'censor all of their political opponents'

Something that irritates me more than anything:

Person A: constantly says abusive, toxic things about Person B.

B: says nothing

A: continues, for like years

B: finally has enough and speaks up to defend themselves

Outside observers: SEE THEY’RE BOTH SHITTY PEOPLE AND BOTH SHOULD BE CAST OUT
January 11, 2026 at 4:57 AM
So right now...

1. I do have someone awesome trying to help out in finding a replacement board, might have a lead. It's going to be involved, though, but I think it'll be better off.

2. At the same time, this is fairly low priority, and am actually planning my VCF West table around NOT having it.
Okay, well.

The Tricaster’s board is dead dead. Board flex seems to have caused a break internally and/or broke the BGA on the chipset.

Now looking for a late 00s Shuttle XPC board to get it running again. Something that can slot a Core 2 Duo, pretty much.

So things aren’t looking super great for the Tricaster. The subtle board flex might have killed it but I’m hoping a reflow of the chipset BGA might have brought it back.

*sigh*
