This is THE WEIRDEST device I've ever used!

Watch me check out this silly piece of oddware from 1985.

Oh, and maybe do some neck stretches first.

Some of the others weren't so lucky... 🫠
A photo of a 3.5" floppy disk with wear marks in the media, bad enough to let light through.

Did you know that the Texscan MSI Compuvid Spectragen 4B can make a picture of a Millennium Falcon?

On an unrelated note: I created this screen on a PC with a Python script and sent it over serial.

The page editor works. YAY!

Still some rough edges, but we're getting there.
a spectragen and its brand new page editor application side by side, showing that data made on the page editor shows up properly on the spectragen

also, a millennium falcon using block graphics

Look at this awesome t-shirt my father in law found buried in his closet. He was writing SQL in his sleep before any of these startup bros were even born.

Whoa, I found another floppy from original Macintosh team member Joanna Hoffman! 😳

It contains the earliest version of ResEdit I’ve seen, v1.0 D4 - from 1985! 💾

The disk catalog showing Joanna’s system disk. The Get Info window showing the ResEdit application version 1.0 D4 and a date of December 1985. The application about window showing the ResEdit application version 1.0 D4 and a date of December 6, 1985.

Sometimes you just gotta hack your own solution! 📺

In this video I mod this TV remote to make it more accessible for my father-in-law. ❤️

If you want to make your own, a guide and 3D models are in the video description.

Going to try to sneak in a quick, super easy, super chill stream this afternoon (2:30 eastern) to recap Mac Classic and SE/30 logic boards. This is guaranteed to go totally smoothly.

Prototyping my first learning-electronics project kit is winding down (I am finishing up the manual as well). Top is through-hole, bottom my first go at surface-mount (I learned a few things and have changed it some).

(Hard to find a domain name these days. Went with CircuitPixies.)

Haha, thanks! At least the d-pad area was rigid enough of a place to mount a button! 😅

Qualcomm is acquiring Arduino, and they're launching a new SBC (Uno Q) combining a Dragonwing SoC with an Arduino microcontroller in the Uno form factor. What implications does this have for makers and education? Quick video covering the news: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfKX...

Does anyone have a boxed copy of Day of the Tentacle they’re interested in selling?
mac84.bsky.social
The people selling them on eBay aren’t preserving or archiving them, or even testing them. Their aspirational prices artificially inflate things elsewhere. I don’t use the word “selling” because they often don’t sell.

The 1st image shows identical discs at $10 and $100, quite the difference.

Thanks, Jeremy! I think I have that specific 1999 one too, but feel free to look through your collection and see what you have.

If you have Windows, ImgBurn I've found is the easiest way to archive those, if you have a Mac it can sometimes be a bit tricky due to the latest Mac OS, but DM me. 💿

Yes, those developer discs are cool. 👍 Thankfully those are archived.

What aren't fully archived are internal marketing & sales things like:

- Apple Reference and Presentations Library (ARPLE)
- Service Source / Information Source
- Apple Sales Web
- Sales Skills Training
- Product Training
& more
