It’s here! And it’s fantastic! The looong awaited follow up from the Telephone Numbers! But why Scarecrow *II* @slumberlandrecords.com ? (Could it be in deference to John Mellencamp’s great 85 album?)
Most of what I’ve read is negative and a lot of it is a defense of Charli XCX - which fair enough. That track does feels little mean. But yeah I wouldn’t go with daring either unless one meant in a headline making way.
I think a lot of the negative takes are confusing themes they wish she didn’t give in to (ie the punching down) w the actual craft on display; like or not these songs are inarguably impeccably crafted. She’s as sharp as ever. The melding of wordplay and meter is still characteristically wizard tier.
More anachronistic thing: buying a cd this am (it’s 2025) OR hearing Big Star’s “September Gurls” being played at Target whilst purchasing said cd (it’s October).
Sports are so dumb, and then suddenly they make you feel like anything can happen in the world, and NOTHING feels like that anymore, and it is impossible to explain this to people who correctly state that sports are dumb.
