Just saw The Stand (2024)about the 1985 Haida blockade of Lyell Island logging. Amazing original footage of RCMP arresting Haida women elders, & the impressive Miles Richardson, Haida pres, vs. cringey, paternalistic, industry shill/TV host Jack Webster. #bcpoli collection.nfb.ca/film/the-stand

One thing I'm not sure is known very well is that aside from French and English nationwide, plus regionally appropriate Indigenous languages, CBC/Radio Canada also provides Canadian news in 7 other languages worldwide for local and diaspora audiences ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en

Love it and....write letters to your elected officials about what is important to you. What do you want them to pay attention to? To stand up to? Use your power as a citizen AND a consumer.
remember this can be one day or day one - do what you can!

So uplifted by @caroloff.bsky.social's talk in Castlegar last night. Some takeaways>if you want good journalism PAY for it. Once it's gone, it's gone. We have more power as citizens, rather than consumers - resist, speak up! write letters! Humanity is the antidote! 👏 Read her book for more.

It didn’t.
No, USAID Isn’t Giving Billions to Canadian Universities | The Tyee
The American agency is not funding the ‘woke indoctrination’ of youth in Canada, no matter what you read on X.
