I like Anime, Touhou, retro technology, and games. Mainly CRT (cathode ray tube) displays. I enjoy photographing Fumos and CRTs when I can. Slow output due to health, but I hope that anyone who comes across my photos enjoys them.

Late gen Sony tubes could be incredibly high resolution. Here's some Super Metroid unscaled at 480p on a Sony FD Trinitron M50LRB15X. Really sizable scanline gaps even at 480p. The next two images are 1920x1440. The tube even has very faint horizontal scanline gaps at such a massive resolution.

Here are some Dracs from me. The left photo is Wii emulation from a launch Wii via YPbPr. The launch Wii has notoriously soft YPbPr. The right is from my MiSTer FPGA via RGB, and I just get dots. Are you using original hardware?

Can't sleep, so here's an early #ScanlineSunday from me. Some DS games on CRT. Really wish there was an easy solution for playing the DS on a CRT because they really look amazing on one.

One thing that's very cool about Retroarch is the tvout-tweaks shader. It lets you adjust your luminance resolution. This allows you to get blending with RGB without artifacting, or losing your chroma resolution.

It's also fun playing with the analog nature of CRTs and squeezing different looks out of them. A while back I played Pokemon Platinum at 512x384 (to fit both screens) and it really changed how the game looked. bsky.app/profile/yaba...

Absolutely. There is certainly a sweet spot when it comes to TVL depending on the taste of the viewer. The type of mask can also have an impact. Higher TVL will get you sharpness and clarity, but that clarity and the gaps in scanlines always brings aliasing with it.

And, another shot from the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III. In terms of detail I get much better results on a larger tube. Just barely had enough space to shoot this time. Same upsides as before. All of these photos are of my BM-H1900SU. So, 20 inch tube this time. .40mm dot pitch.

It's also incredibly good at low light photography which is essential for CRT photography. I can get the same exposure at 1/10 shutter speed on the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM (right) as I do from my EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II at 1 second shutter speed.

Next lens experiment is an EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM that I just bought. It's a large aperture lens with a fixed length so it's tricky to use. Super sharp and you have to get a good distance/angle, but the result is WOW. I'm incredibly impressed.

I've heard of limit removing, but this is ridiculous. Also this sprite is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen.

Still doing telephoto CRT tests. This time some R-Type III. Still soft, but I think i got decent detail this time. Some focus loss on corners for the angled shots.

Seems the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III can let me capture decent up close shots too. Not macro by any means, but pretty decent and nice to have. Going to try other telephoto lenses in the future.

What I like the most about the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III is it lets me blend scanline gaps in a natural feeling way. Doesn't feel out of focus. I feel like this is a good representation of how a CRT looks in real life. Unfortunately, the need for long exposure means nothing on screen can be moving.

Too soft to really capture enough detail on a fine pitch mask. Still looks decent.

More EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III experiments. Apparently a lot of people really dislike this lens because of how soft it is, but it's helping me with CRT photos. Getting low distortion and low moire photos out of it. Here it is VS my EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II (left) kit lens. Not as sharp, but good.

I've been experimenting with using a telephoto lens and long exposure times. I'm pretty happy with the results I got.

Relax with Mario on this Scanline Sunday. Captured on an IBM C50 CRT monitor at 480p using VGA. #crt #scanlinesunday #nicewater #amazingwater

It's Axel from Streets. Did you know the MiSTer's adaptive blending is really cool?

Dream Land 3 is beautiful. It's almost like a drawing that's come to life. One of the very best looking games on the SNES. Almost feels like a next gen game.
