on the bus. This was going to be an account about bicycles but it seems to be about immigration now.

It's no longer totally accurate to say this account is about bicycles so here's a new pinned post

I have a blog

Fleet week should always consist of a few boats from some other countries come over and you can go look at them
yarnbike.bsky.social
the question of what is up with the ties seems utterly ungoogleable

the Colombian flag has great graphic design I realized
very recognizable and you can just put the three colours on everything: 🇨🇴

Most of the sailors were wearing those macrame bolo type ties, many of them decorated with pins. I couldn't figure out the story behind them. I definitely do not speak enough Spanish
Arc Gloria stained glass with little ship gauges and stuff around it Another stained glass, showing the sky and navigational tools as well as boats A collection of framed macrame ties and also a statue of a woman holding a child Man in a uniform with a macrame tie like the ones in the cabinet

boat

if you look closely there are little Colombian flags everywhere
large sailboat with the flag of Colombia looking up one of the masts, a sail says "colombia the country of beauty" Many coils of rope with little colombian flags at the end A crowded deck of the boat, with the colombian flag,

We need to stop pairing unrelated infrastructure upgrades with transit projects because everyone blames the transit project for construction even though 90% of the work is for a sewer replacement and then it makes future transit projects harder share.google/dr9blW4oQuZ3...
After controversial Muni upgrade, bus crashes have dropped significantly
Bus crashes are down 40% on the busy SF corridor.

it ended up taking 2h btw

This line is way too long but this cost is thoroughly sunk
yarnbike.bsky.social
This time estimate was wildly optimistic it's going to be over an hour
yarnbike.bsky.social
I'm in line for the big boat and I am estimating a total of 40 min. I am well into sunk cost territory
yarnbike.bsky.social
That actually raises slightly more questions now that I think of it
yarnbike.bsky.social
I asked if the HCMS ship is in Nanaimo and if that's why it's called that and he said well it is for clearing mines and there are not a lot of mines on the west coast

I think this is the best I will do
Sailboat with several masts viewed from the front and a giant Colombian flag

I could not see it from the Canadian ship but they did have some good ominous signs (and a tourist who was way too excited about the one gun on the ship)
Radhaz do not climb without authorization from command (bilingual)
yarnbike.bsky.social
Guy next to me is negatively comparing the Canadian community in SF to the Colombian community and he is not wrong but
yarnbike.bsky.social
In fact the best way to see it might be from the Canadian boat
A more conventional Canadian warship next to the sailboat
yarnbike.bsky.social
The answer seems to be extremely long

I'm not even sure I can get close enough to properly see it
An extremely long line leading to a large sailboat

Seeing some rather blue looking planes?

This is why the work of community watch groups is so important. It's not just capturing the faces of ICE agents, but also their vehicles. In Massachusetts we are already seeing them adapt and change their tactics in response to the work of community groups.

One of the things that I think the internal politics of ICE/CBP is probably grappling with and didn't quite get when all this kicked off is that the fact that the surveillance state could be turned back on the secret police in a way that makes it very hard for anything they do to be ignored.

From what I've heard, people protesting outside the immigration court have basically entirely stopped abductions from that court for basically that reason - a constant presence makes it impossible to disappear people and hard for specific members of ICE to hide their crimes

The fact that any association with drugs is punished by permanent exile, but only for some people, is one of those things that is so clearly contrary to how people think a just society should work and also something I don't know how we'd fix at this point
