Air Quality + Low-cost Sensors + Physics + Machine Learning
Grateful to Ahmedabad University for support and all co-authors for their collaboration. Thankful to PRL Ahmedabad for providing sensor-reference co-location facilities.

Researchers working on low-cost sensors, urban air pollution, or calibration methods are welcome to connect and collaborate.

This study addresses a key regional gap in LCS evaluation in India and shows that careful calibration is essential for reliable low-cost monitoring.
Properly corrected LCS networks can support long-term trend analysis and better understanding of aerosols and ozone in growing cities.
February 7, 2026 at 2:44 PM
Ozone calibration, using reference O₃ plus temperature and humidity, showed strong agreement between sensors and R² ≈ 0.7 with reference data. Corrected LCS data captured typical urban air quality patterns.

Why this matters?
February 7, 2026 at 2:44 PM
We calibrated particulate matter (PM) sensors (OPC-N3) & electrochemical gas sensors (ozone - OXB4 from Alphasense) using reference instruments under real urban conditions.

Key findings:
PM₂.₅ accuracy improved significantly after correcting particle mass size distribution. R² ≈ 0.7, nMAB ≈ 29%.
February 7, 2026 at 2:44 PM
Region-specific calibration is essential, and such studies are scarce for urban regions of western India, particularly Ahmedabad.

This work emphasizes that improving #ambient_air_quality alone isn’t enough—effective #IAQ_management must combine outdoor #pollution_control with smart indoor practices like #ventilation and #filtration.

🔎 Our #findings show that:
#IndoorAirQuality was 50% of times poorer than outdoors, even in rooms without active emission sources ❗
In spaces with sources like cooking, soldering, grinding or cutting, PM2.5 levels were up to twice as high as outdoors ‼️
November 3, 2025 at 11:06 AM
In this study, we evaluated #indoor and #outdoor #particulate_matter (PM2.5) levels across different microenvironments using #low_cost_sensors (LCS), #calibrated against an FEM #reference instrument using #Multiple_Linear_Regression (MLR) technique.
