Insecurity induces potential migrants to compromise on job suitability, making them more likely to accept occupational downgrading. Conflict-induced mobility can therefore limit gains from migration.

We find that exposure to conflict in Myanmar makes graduates more amenable to take on lower-skilled work at migration destinations. This effect is stronger for women, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups in the labor market.

One key insight: Can SP aggravate or lower conflict? It depends on:
- How SP affects the Opportunity Cost of violence
- How SP shapes attitudes viz. government, rebels
- The capability of armed actors (esp. rebels) to scuttle/ appropriate programs or inflict backlash
