Previous comment definitely made me think of goal free problems - totally agree here! I've found lots of students can be surprised at how many questions they can pick up at least one mark on if they're just trying to make sure they do SOMETHING good mathematically instead of leaving them blank.

Is it a general test or on a specific topic? I gave my students a short test last week on 6 topics (2 questions each); asked the ones to finish early to write an extra question on each topic which would make it a more well-rounded test. Really interesting to see what they came up with.
