sometimes #AI feels like an image of human… in this internet apparatus, our likes & dislikes, highs & lows are captured as data, just like image processing inside the camera… capturing/imaging results in AI, or a photo, an image mirroring the humanity.

#old-day-pop-up when writing my bachelor’s thesis on nisu culture (I named it as ‘reverse fantasy’, i.e. fantasizing male celebrity as women figure in fan fictions💫)
also reminiscent of a summer school then, ‘intro to sexuality’ at uva, where we subverted a lot of gender norms.

not always a close reader for detail and accuracy, which was problematic in school lol.
but for my own leisure (away from bullshit job), I value the aesthetic experience of reading. so among continental theorists, i particularly feel good to read kant and deleuze, who are both open-minded mediators.

Since I had a long trip in Guangzhou (also since I helped the exhibition in memory of architects Liang&Lin), I have revisited Chinese history 1910-1949, when a group of intellects who had studied abroad made a melting pot of western modernity toolkits and chinese canons across many disciplines.
Republic of China Military Academy, Guangzhou. Built in the 1920s.

For hundreds, Guangzhou has been the geographically farthest metropolis beyond the central government's control. In the 1920, revolution against the feudal system started here from the southern China to the northern.

“I want it to be something where you don’t necessarily feel like you have to spend a ton of time with it,” said Hurtle. yes, back to the time when attention was not yet exploited as data mine.

Shanghai Food Scene:
a. Thiner Schnitzel, asked by waiter if I want spicy soy sauce (a local way of eating fried pork)
b. Softer Crepe, reported by past customers it is not soft enough
c. Sikarni, but low-sugar milder yogurt, served in a Nepali restaurant without a Chinese-speaking server

Dream of Red Chamber, Cao Xueqin.

Never have chance to introduce my life canon in English. I can actually monologue it for days •ᴥ• Even if it's written in premodern China in 1792, this books include many topics in modern society - existentialism, phenomenology, psychoanalysis, even queer theory.

as a theory person who sees everything philosophically and murmurs my mind in these letters, I always have an idea of writing pure theoretical pieces, but also solitarily unmotivated to weave big canons

I was “gossiping” taiwan cinema these days. Have to share these photos of Lin Ching-hsia & Hu Yinmeng because they are just so dreamily beautiful.

The history of <Lust, Caution> was also interesting. Eileen Chang published this small piece in 1978, which instantly intrigued Taiwanese artist groups (incl. Edward Yang). After several rounds of pitching, Ang Lee finally took over it. <Terrorizer> (1986) also got inspirations from this story.

I was rewatching Edward Yang's films and reading through Fredric Jameson's 'Remapping Taipei', the film review of <Terrorizer>. Yang was more historically significant than I thought. A lot of Asian filmmakers have his influence. He, as a computer engineer, literally led the arthouse cinema lol.

2. Neuritis: Surprisingly I found this reading group ‘critical AI’ on Xiaohongshu. They launched a Chinese channel: neuritis.org

Sun Yat-Sen's Memorial Hall, Guangzhou. Built in 1920s.

Compared to Mao's (built in 1970s), I see how the architecture transformed from traditional Chinese style to Soviet style in the past hundred year.
A culturally and historically disparate nation.
