Anyone know what this little carrier-crab-like thing is? Asking for a friend, found during a survey in Southern New England. cc @jopabinia.bsky.social

That is really annoying, I hope they can fix it in a way that is cohesive. Are you comfortable naming the journal just so we know who to watch out for? If not perhaps consider DMing it to me, because I'd like to avoid this from ever happening to anyone else...

Ugh that sucks I'm sorry, out of curiosity did they not give you a final proof, or were changes not implemented before publication? Either seems rather concerning...

Calling #ICZN people: we had a #taxonomy paper come out w/ literally dozens of publisher errors. Told it can’t be fixed online as that’s against the Code & needs a lengthy correction notice. 😤 imo that would make it even less accessible - is it really our only option?

A job ad with multiple images, including the exterior of the museum, a view of collections (jars on shelves), and pictures of some cool, tropical fish but I don't know enough about fish to describe them other than to say they're pretty colors of yellow and blue/green

Some of you reached out after seeing this post and it has led to some promising leads! A re-up for this week in case someone with louse samples hasn't seen it yet! Many thanks and I'm happy to answer questions!

Hi! We need lice for our diversity and adaptation project. Specifically, we need lice from zebras, camelids (camels, llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, guanacos) & aardvarks. If you or someone you know might have lice, I'm happy to discuss our inclusive collaboration plans!

One of the few small projects I did as a visiting scientist at Sichuan University last year: A new species of bramble gall wasp, first record of the genus for China. The real diversity is likely much higher given the richness of Rubus in the area.

'Tis the season to search for lumps on plants, aka galls! These growths are created in response to other organisms — often insects, fungi, or bacteria — injecting their chemicals into the plant. 🧵⤵️

This gall looks like something you'd imagine a mythical fairy-like creature living in. It's shaped like a mushroom and has a small hole in the front. The stem of a plant has a couple round growths with small holes in them.

This was a fun collaboration, led by Guerin Brown @guerin-brown.bsky.social in the Forbes Lab @lordforbington.bsky.social - our teams found European parasitoids emerged from North American oak gall wasp species in western and eastern North America, which were likely separate introductions.
