Heading to #Ingleborough or #Whernside next week? We're planning to transport material with helicopters onto the two peaks, starting 29/9/25 weather dependent.

👷Please follow instructions from contractors on the ground who will be manning footpaths to ensure your safety.

The image captures a scenic view of the Yorkshire Dales in England. The foreground features a rocky, grassy hillside with limestone outcroppings. Taller grasses and small yellow flowers are scattered amongst the rocks. A low, stone wall runs along part of the lower left side of the frame. Beyond the hillside, a lush green valley stretches into the distance. The valley floor is punctuated with clusters of trees, creating a patchwork of woodland and open meadows. A large, gently rising hill dominates the horizon under a blue sky speckled with fluffy white clouds. Sunlight casts shadows across the landscape, highlighting the varying terrain. When old meets new. Two restoration interventions, 10 years apart. The timber dam has been overgrown by #Sphagnum and #Cottongrass. We then added a coir log to improve water retention in some part of the gully. #PeatlandRestoration #SphagnumMonday #GreatNorthBog

Great to be in Westminster talking #Peatlands & the #GreatNorthBog with Minister @marycreagh.bsky.social yesterday. Thanks to all who gave their time & attention to listen to us making the case for for #Restoration, and to @yorkswildlife.bsky.social Rachael Bice for making that case so eloquently.

A fantastic hummock among the sedges. How many different #Sphagnum species can you identify? 🕵️ #SphagnumMonday #GreatNorthBog

Although it's not part of the #GreatNorthBog, it's always great to get to Potteric Carr. Today we shared our work with @yorkswildlife.bsky.social members - lovely to meet so many of you! (wind meant our displays had to be more horizontal than usual).

If you're visiting the #GreatNorthBog this weekend, please leave the BBQ at home, no naked flames, no smoking, no litter - we don't want another fire destroying wildlife, livelihoods or our #PreciousPeatlands.

The North York Moors fire will be devastating to wildlife - thank you to everyone tirelessly tackling the blaze, from the fire service and volunteers to local land managers.

Our countryside is incredibly dry, please:
🔥Do not light a BBQ or stoves anywhere
🔥Take all your litter home
🔥No smoking

It has been three years since the UK Government announced that it would ban the sale of peat for use in the amateur gardening sector, yet there is still no sign of legislation to enact the ban: www.wildlifetrusts.org/news/vast-ar...

Some lovely sphagnum carpets on Fleet Moss yesterday, still wet and springy despite the dry weather we've had in the #GreatNorthBog.

Lovely little clip of a sphagnum carpet and some sundews in the #GreatNorthBog. The sphagnum is a bit crispy in patches but it will recover.
