Yorkshire’s woodlands are feeling the heat.

After the driest spring in 90 years, trees are shedding limbs and wildlife is struggling.

Just 8% of Yorkshire is wooded.🌳

Let’s root for our wild woods before it’s too late:

Many of Yorkshire's most loved, visited and famous landscapes and places, including our reserves, are in National Parks.

We recently signed a letter alongside 170 other organsiations asking the Prime Minister not to weaken their protection.

We can’t afford to weaken National Park protections ⚠️

But there are rumours that some in Westminster want to remove the Protected Landscapes duty - the only real power to secure action for nature

We can't let 30 years of campaigning go down the drain

Thanks to @yorkswildlife.bsky.social for funding to send us to Ingleborough! This enabled our members to experience camping for the first time and bonded us together as a community

We are so sorry to hear the passing of Jane Goodall and join the global conservation community in mourning her loss, and in celebrating an astonishing legacy that will carry on.

Her curiosity and compassion will continue to inspire us all to care more deeply for the living world.

Using helicopters is crucial to #peatlandrestoration - they take stone sediment traps to slow the flow of water & capture eroding peat to help retain it on the bog.

We will also be transporting coir logs - used to break up large patches of bare peat & protect exposed peat from wind & water erosion.
The image shows a wetland landscape under a clear blue sky. A series of small, interconnected stream channels run through the landscape, with grassy vegetation covering the surrounding terrain. Three visible check dams, constructed from tan-colored coir logs, are installed across the channels to slow water flow and reduce erosion. The logs are secured with white posts. The water in the channels is dark and reflects the sky. The background shows gently rolling hills covered in dry grasses. The overall impression is one of ecological restoration and water management. Credit: Joe Haywood The image shows a rural landscape with a stone baffle. A pile of light-colored stones sits in a pool surrounded by lush green vegetation. The water is dark and still, with aquatic plants visible beneath the surface. Peat edges define the background, topped with brown and green grasses, under a cloudless blue sky. Credit: Joe Haywood

Heading to #Ingleborough or #Whernside next week? We're planning to transport material with helicopters onto the two peaks, starting 29/9/25 weather dependent.

👷Please follow instructions from contractors on the ground who will be manning footpaths to ensure your safety.

The image captures a scenic view of the Yorkshire Dales in England. The foreground features a rocky, grassy hillside with limestone outcroppings. Taller grasses and small yellow flowers are scattered amongst the rocks. A low, stone wall runs along part of the lower left side of the frame. Beyond the hillside, a lush green valley stretches into the distance. The valley floor is punctuated with clusters of trees, creating a patchwork of woodland and open meadows. A large, gently rising hill dominates the horizon under a blue sky speckled with fluffy white clouds. Sunlight casts shadows across the landscape, highlighting the varying terrain. Two Whooper Swans checking out the new island at Ripon City Wetlands, whilst reed cutting took place in front of the hide to create age diversity in the reedbed. Should be good for Teal, Snipe and Bitterns this winter. 🤞 @yorkswildlife.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social
