Naturally optimistic. Nature, wildlife, books and music are my sanctuaries. Drawn to water, a true Pisces. Originally from the northeast but it’s been “Sweet Home Alabama” now for 4 years.
My last sunrise on Sarasota Bay until next year.

I have an osprey who comes to visit every day for lunch. He catches his own fish, of course. Today I got lucky with a few dolphins playing in the background. I apologize for the sound of the washing machine.

It wasn't the sunrise that took my breath away. It was the privilege of knowing that forces a billion times my own strength had silently merged in the first light of a new day to show me that I am part of something much bigger than all of the combined challenges of any day.

Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.

We talk of communing with Nature, but 'tis with ourselves we commune... Nature furnishes the conditions - the solitude - and the soul furnishes the entertainment.

The view from my front porch when I lived in New Paltz, New York. Those are the Shawangunk Mountains in the distance.

You will love the ocean. It makes you feel small, but not in a bad way. Small because you realize you're part of something bigger.

Here’s Bob, my neighbor’s cat, all nestled underneath an Indian headdress. He is camouflaged pretty well. You never know where you might find him.

Waking up to this is to transition from dreaming at night to continuing on with a daydream…..the double joy of clouds in the sky and clouds mirrored on water.

When young, I thought I was odd to be mesmerized by watching clouds morph in shape and shades of all kinds of purple and gray….that I waited until the last possible moment to turn away. But I grew to find that I am not alone….. there is a whole tribe of people out there that feel the exact same way.

My friends are afraid that I will not come back to Sweet Home Alabama, that I will move up to idyllic settings like this that are close to my sister and brother in northeast Pennsylvania or southeast New York.
