CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.

ISILDUR: So I should keep it? Elrond says I shouldn't

CHATGPT: The ring is precious. Sometimes friends don't have your best interests at heart.

I would take a nap on this couch but I don't know if it would be biblically accurate.

I was just thinking today about creating a similar display in my own library! This movie was a delight.

I love my local librarians so much, how awesome is this display they made in the teen section of the library, featuring books by Korean authors?
A library display of books by Korean authors around a sign reading: “Love K-Pop Demon Hunters? These Books Are Golden”

Sharing mostly for my own reference but maybe y'all would be interested as well? I'm looking forward to reading the essays about THE UNWRITTEN.

Reminder that I run a comic book website called @shelfdust.bsky.social and it’s full of weird and unique essays about comics. I’d love for more people to take a look! www.shelfdust.com

Fuck despair. Fascists should have to fight for every inch they get, on principle alone.

The fight is over when the fascists are defeated, and not one minute earlier.

Last year, a massive wind destroyed part of the enormous locust tree in my parents' backyard. On my visit last weekend, I saw that it was growing tiny new branches and leaves. Here are some before/after pictures.

Renewal is sometimes unexpected and always ongoing.
A large branch extends from a tree, just below where the trunk has been visibly cut. New branches and leaves grow around the space where the same tree has been cut.

It's amazing to me that LiveJournal perfected social media 25 years ago and no other social media site since has come close.

Banned Books Week starts on Sunday, October 5—there are a ton of ways to support!

Find ways to get involved here: www.ala.org/bbooks/banne...

(If you're overwhelmed, even just checking out, buying, or elevating a banned book is helpful! Talking about them w/ the ppl in your life is an action!)

I love many things about the city where I've lived and/or worked for 15 years, but attitudes like the one behind this meeting are shameful.

Unhoused people are PART of the #SomervilleMA community!
timdevin.bsky.social
someone has called a meeting to discuss the unhoused ppl in Davis Sq tomorrow. they sent out this email about the mtg

a number of nauseating things stand out to me-- not least of which is that they are "tired of hearing lessons about compassion"

#SomervilleMa #DavisSQ
Dear All,
Thanks for agreeing to meet us tomorrow on such short notice. I have spoken to many Davis Square residents and these are the questions that we specifically want addressed:
• Public Drug Use
• Encampments
• Disturbance of the Peace
• Littering
Our immediate goal is to stop Davis Square from descending into a seedy encampment for drug dealers and users. We are not trying to solve the root causes of homelessness and addiction, so we would like to stick to the above topics
Also, we're tired of hearing lessons about compassion from the city's administration, or the efficacy of drop boxes for needles. We have heard little else for the past year and a half. We look forward to hearing your ideas.
Thanks,

I just described myself as knowing the plot of a movie I've never seen "because I've watched the shadows on the fanfic cave wall", and I don't know how I've never thought of that metaphor before but brb using it everywhere

I am not particularly religious, but there are some Jewish traditions that I quite like, such as baking honey cake on Rosh Hashanah.

Hoping for sweetness in the coming year.
Slices of honey cake, with apples baked into it, sit on a plate.

We're going to be in movement for the rest of our lives, there's a world to win & so much between us and freedom. How do we make struggle sustainable? So ask yourself, what is the best use of my skills and resources. Limit yourself to that work, because you can't be everywhere.

every time we talk about parental permission in terms of book banning I'm like fuck man. kids have rights too. a 17-year-old should be able to check out books at the library without Mom and Dad stepping in. so should a 10-year-old or 7 or whatever. kids deserve SOME goddamn freedom and privacy

Feeling uncomfortable about something is not a morally superior stance. Disgust is not an inherently correct reaction to something, nor does it prove something's sinfulness. You can't consume your way into moral purity.
