Given the purges and extremely draconian management style in the executive branch, we wish we could be as optimistic. But, we think that likely resulted in untrained employees in understaffed offices being given an absurd deadline and doing the best they could. Thankfully, it failed hilariously.

The law means nothing to criminals until they are held to account for their crimes. If we continue to let the executive branch of the US government pick and choose which laws they want to follow, there is no law.

So, regarding redactions:

It used to be a very common thing that lawyers (or others) would badly redact text, in ways that the text was trivialy recoverable.

That still happens, but it's nowhere near as common.

That said, it absolutely will not surprise me if Bondi's team screws this up.

Our guess is that they waited until the last minute and needed to truly analyze a giant set of documents that rightfully required redaction. Naturally, given time constraints and staffing, they f*cked it up.
