What we’ve done is switch all of our online shopping to other retailers — just started using Quill for office supplies and they’re great. We don’t have much in the way of retail nearby but we’ve managed to only get the most occasional weird thing on Amazon!

Today is the birthday of artist Ramona Fradon (Oct. 2, 1926-Feb. 24, 2024). Most known for cocreating Metamorpho and her work on Aquaman, Superfriends, Plastic Man, and the comic strip Brenda Starr, Reporter.

A commission she did of Aquaman’s wedding and three comic books she did the covers and/or the interior art for: The Brave and the Bold #66, featuring Metamorpho and the Metal Men, Superfriends #28, and Plastic Man #19.

Racist and blatantly wrong! He famously turns his critical eye inward. That’s almost the whole premise of his last book and it comes up throughout WE WERE EIGHT YEARS IN POWER. It’s just that he didn’t arrive at the conclusions she wanted him to.

Somebody close to Solange tell her to include cartoonists too! Jackie Ormes, Ollie Harrington, etc. Of course, given issues with segregation and discrimination in the comic industry, this leads to questions on what to include during the curation process.

The best teacher I ever had gave us optional homework “if you feel like you need it” (it was up to us to decide if we were clear enough on something or needed some more time with it. He never checked if we did it but he gave us the option every day.
