The Pink Hydra #4 is live!!!

As always a blend of tones, styles and lengths to suit, but I particularly want to recommend starting with "Edelyn's End," an #ownvoices heroic fantasy novelette by 24-year-old trans British writer Beth Cleaton. 🏳️‍⚧️

Realized a while back my novel needed to switch primary protagonists as the love interest had the stronger narrative drive.

It felt like a small change at the time but after feedback I'm realizing how much work I need to do to shift the original plot to reflect this change. #writing

Anyone else's #writing process gets completely thrown if they realize they understand very little about a topic related to their world building and then proceed to go into heavy research mode? Because... yeah, I'm now deep into the history of fashion and clothing and I didn't plan to be.

#AskAnAuthor

I always loved reading and would make up my own stories. But it was only when I was 15 and found fanfiction on an Inuyasha fan site I realized you could do more than imagine. Before that I'd never even thought about writing down my ideas. It was like a switch went on in my head.

My goal for this year is to finish one of my #WIP novels. So clearly the best #writing strategy should be writing two different novels at the same time right. I mean they're set in the same world, just centuries apart, so this totally won't drive me insane trying to keep it all straight.

Read my first book of 2025, and it was a true gem! Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett is charming and sweet, yet holds both the grimness of the old fairy tales and the honest heart of any good novel. Definitely recommend!

Finally done with this monster of a short story in time for the holidays. I'm pretty proud of this one, but I know I need at least one or two rounds of edits before its fully polished. This was one where the characters told me their ending as I was writing it, which is always fun.

Finally seeing the end of this short story (at this point a short novella) that's taken over my brain for the last couple months. Then I can get back to my WIP novels. Taking this break from them has given me fresh motivation and ideas. Anyone else have that happen?

That moment when you strike upon an idea that makes your story flow so much better and resolves lingering issues, but also makes you realize you now have pages and pages of rewrites to do. I did that to myself twice yesterday for two different novel ideas.

Early christmas present from @jensilvo.bsky.social . I'm only a few pages in and this goes so hard. I don't know why Japan loves the French Revolution as much as I do but god bless them for it.

This is the first time I've had a physical copy of my work in my hands. I had a blast being part of Nat1publishing's Write, Wrong or Otherwise event, and I'm super happy to be part of this anthology.

Anyone else in the #writingcommunity get paranoid about the things they search for while doing research? Like I swear officers I'm looking up this gruesome execution method so I can accurately portray the scene since, you know, a lived experience isn't possible to obtain 😅

As someone who works in corporate America, I've either A)been a cog in the machine to implement "the brilliant idea that will fix everything", B)been its victim, or C)been a bemused spectator (Usually I'm A). Which makes this ep so enjoyable with how beat for beat it captures this experience.

Went with my lovely fiance ( @jessredolfi.bsky.social ) to see one of our favorite #musicals, Come From Away. Not only is it one of the most beautiful stories in any medium, it is also one of the ones that always leaves me with a sense of hope for us as humans.

This story beautifully conveys the real impacts of revolution beyond the barricades and guillotines we think of, and how survivors, even the most broken, can try and do the very simple but oh so necessary things that help us all heal.

In this current climate, these types of stories matter.
(A story of the aftermath of revolution, not unlike "In Memory of the Daihani Revolution" by Miranda Rain in BCS #420 right now. www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/in-m... )

I am mentally blown away that the head writer of one of my all time favorite youtube series is also the author of one of the best Warhammer books I've read, the Infinite and the Divine.

What a crazy crossover.
Hey Bluesky!

I’m Robert Rath, author of the Warhammer 40,000 novels THE INFINITE AND THE DIVINE, THE FALL OF CADIA, ASSASSINORUM: KINGMAKER, and Head Writer of the YouTube series EXTRA HISTORY.

Follow me for comfortably warm takes, writing news, and photos of Hong Kong.

Finally started watching Arcane this week.

Things I like: its a complex, deeply personal story (tragic friends to enemies stories everywhere!) set in a dungeonpunk techno-magic world (which I'm a sucker for)

Things I dislike: It somehow tricked me into updating League and I might play again
