Kasandra rested a palm against the side of his face, her movements slow and careful as if she were afraid to spook him. “Can I…kiss you now?” The tip of Narok’s tongue edged his lower lip. Her palm was warm as her thumb brushed the stubble at his chin. He released a shuddering breath. “Yes.” Her scent sparked erratically, a jumble of emotions that moved too quickly for him to name. Their threads entangled, and her smile was so much that it made Narok ache. With fragile tenderness, she pressed her lips to his. It was nothing like the kiss by the creek. That’d been aggressive, forceful. That was what had triggered his panic: the intent. This…this was sweet. It was clear Kasandra knew what she was doing. She moved slow yet earnest, and her lips hinted at a taste of lemon. The hand against his cheek slid down the side of his throat, tilting his head to a better angle. Narok didn’t know how to kiss, but he’d watched Bolad and the others do it enough time he had a general idea of how it was supposed to go. When he knocked his teeth against hers, she giggled as he sputtered apologies. Kasandra broke away first, and they lingered like that for a few seconds, just taking each other in. Her cheeks were flushed, and she cleared her throat. “How was that?” Her scent had changed again, twisting with doubt. A faint hint of desire. The lavender was suddenly so potent; it was going to drive him mad. The remnant taste of her lips lingered on his tongue. “Good.” “Just good? Not fantastic?” “I told you. I don’t have much, any, experience.”

Fish's father adopted him & his siblings for the sole purpose of being foot soldiers in his magical war.
