Headline should be: Floodwaters Totally Normal for York; Meanwhile, in the South West...
The south and west of Britain are getting battered, and yet again the film crews of the BBC go to York because a) it looks impressive to those who don't know tris is basically nothing, and b) the large number of warm, and more importantly DRY, pubs just out of shot

This is very much my reply to the various family members who get concerned every time York flooding turns up on the BBC.

If it's high enough to be hitting our house, we have significantly bigger problems because that means the whole city centre's completely underwater.
I used to run the comic store and one year when the flooding was pretty impressive, my boss called to ask if we had a plan. I gently pointed out to him that if Goodramgate was flooded, then we were in full Day after Tomorrow territory and soggy back issues wouldn't really be an issue

This attempted (ahem) dunk falls flat if you know that almost all of these pubs will be open this lunchtime (possibly not the Kings Arms, but that's a good thing because fuck Sam Smiths), and the stuff on the other side is raised above car parking *because* of the regular flooding.

UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT. If the government bans under-16s from using VPNs, then logically they must intend to REQUIRE AGE VERIFICATION FOR ALL VPN USE. Which will affect adults too!

Y'all if you do not take your wins and cling to them fiercely you are never gonna make it.
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

A whole whack of mine are disabled and a lot of them are queer - neither of those were on purpose, it just kinda happened.

I also write a lot of folks with strong internal honour codes (which don't always match up to external laws) and most of my characters can handle themselves in a scrap.
For those with multiple original characters, is there anything that they have in common?

While we're open this week as normal, our wheelchair access is, well... fucked, to be blunt.

We're very sorry. In theory this gets cleared up and covered on Friday, but we'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, any locals, feel free to request home delivery by email or order notes on the website

Sherlock Holmes is only an asshole when it suits him. NEVER when it will hurt someone he cares about and NEVER when it will hurt the case. The man is actually masterful at human relations. Every modern adaptation fails at this.

I'm very much in the park of Holmes being several types of neurodivergent but folk don't get how to make it obvious he doesn't give a shit about other people unless it matters, to both him and to THEM. Jeremy Brett still does it best.
