Just published an op-ed with CIGI: 🇨🇦 must do more to protect women/girls from harmful deepfakes.

Deepfake abuse is a major form of digital violence — one our laws barely recognize. We need real protections for likeness, voice, consent, and dignity.

Canada Must Do More to Protect Women and Girls from Harmful Deepfakes
Modernizing image and likeness rights is the only way to safeguard dignity from digital violence and AI impersonation.

Back in 2019, I wrote about deepfakes and the dangers of synthetic media — how it could distort reality, fuel misinformation, and make violence feel “real.”

Fast-forward to today: OpenAI’s Sora is generating violent and racist scenes that blur fiction and reality.

What was foresight is now fact.

Humanoid robots are here, folks.

Do you think they’ll need rights and responsibilities like humans — or perhaps like animals do, which are seen as quasi-humans in some jurisdictions?

Found a hidden gem in Montréal today — Café Tranquille 😍

Nestled in the heart of Places-des-Arts, this café is airy, spacious, bright. It’s gorgeous.

You can borrow a book from the library or borrow a game to play with pals.

Will definitely be coming back here with friends! 🌿🥰☺️

Folks, we’ve now got AI-generated humans.

I’m especially curious to see how the porn industry — a fore runner in all things digital — will transform as we beam in AI-generated people.

This is not obviously related to to AI, but I *really* want to read a Jia Tolentino piece on the fact that:

Sydney Sweeney has a men’s bubble bath product that contains some of the water she herself has bathed in😂

I am lowkey excited for the era of content completely by AI on apps like TikTok;;

I suspect it’ll be cringey at first and then the funniest ones will push the envelope of humour even further

We are becoming one with machines, and nowhere is this more evident than in writing and in creative practice.

As we rely more and more on AI to write, then our writing and outputs will become more streamlined over time.

Like factories—but for our minds.

BRICS countries may come together and combine efforts to manufacture semi conductors used to train AI super computers.

And they may come together to build a super computer, or a few.

Their use of AI in military (eg drones, brain data) may pave the way for others.

Some AI policy forecasting.

Robots will need legal protections. Humans will mistreat robots.

Governments will protect our brain data, which can be used to train robots to become more human-like. There’ll be pushback from tech companies.

Generally best to be proactive for things like this 🤝

Litigators & legal scholars routinely expect to lose important religious & civil liberties lawsuits due to uncertainty about causal links between technology-enabled intimidation & its effect on people’s behavior.
