I should add that your point is exactly what I have been banging on about, as well. No one in the media seems to want to ask this very obvious question

Some serious people reckon that peak oil will be about 2030 and a better path is to look at using bitumen to produce products instead of burning it for fuel.

@markhamhislop.bsky.social has good info on this and lots of videos talking to various experts who know about this whole area.

I wholeheartedly selfishly support replacing that coal port with anything so I don't have to put up the 15+ coal trains passing through my little coastal town of White Rock every day.

You gotta use what you got.

Did you know they will be in Halifax in December?

People also said that Brexit would never happen. I can see Smith & Co. coming up with pseudo-private proponent using Albertans' taxpayers dollars and providing a backstop for the O&G companies.

I, too, think the pipeline will never happen but the Coastal FNs now have to take a lot of abuse.

As much as I'd love to believe it, I am too much of a pessimist. This MOU had set in motion forces and actions which no one can predict. Think Brexit. My real hope is that Asian oil markets dry up and oil prices stay low. That will the definitive way to stop any pipeline talk.

I never thought I would be in agreement with a UCP member about anything, especially a pipeline.

Yeah, I would.

Must be nice to be an optimist. 😅

Even if the technology "works", if it doesn't use renewable energy to suck the CO2 out, then the outcome is even worse than it appears. Smells of a boondoggle to me.

Now that would just be waaaaay to difficult for BC's Public Health folks who prefer dirty air and to spread disease.

This is why this deal will come back to haunt us years from now. I believe this is exactly how it will play out and all those cheering this deal today seem not to take this possibility into consideration.

In parallel with "why are kids off school so much?"

Sadly, I am rarely disappointed.

That's a fabulous analogy because who in their right mind ever thought brexit would happen. We can all say this pipeline won't get built but even opening the possibility is very dangerous, indeed.

The word "agree" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
