- observe other translators in their craft. it‘s not only fascinating how different everyone‘s approach is, it can teach and inspire you to hone your own craft and sharpen your senses to the different possibilities out there

- that, as the bearer of manifold knowedge, you do have leverage in terms of what‘s translated. you‘re not just a passive bystander or servant of a market, you can pitch ideas, make people aware of the wealth of information/works in other languages they might want or need. it‘s okay to be proactive!

- how to negotiate for yourself (terms, rates, anything really), which first of all requires transparency across the field
- how important networking is (aside from the social and idea exchange aspect, it helped me get my best projects so far. it can feel weird, but there‘s really no way around it)
