this is already a huge problem, and it’s about to get much worse as the economy goes into recession
WORKERS AT FOOD BANKS and pantries said that the canceled deliveries add to the growing challenges they face. Many staff members said they had seen a decline in private contributions and volunteers. Grocery stores and food manufacturers, which started managing their inventories more efficiently during the pandemic, now have less leftover food to give.
Other Trump cuts have disrupted AmeriCorps, which helps staff mobile food pantries and other services, and are ending the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program, which provided food from local farmers.

What formal sanctions can be brought to bear here and in similar instances where DOJ lawyers are openly lying and/or making extremely bad-faith arguments on behalf of a bad-faith government?

you! are! a! lawyer!

I fear that the legal community will act like Trump admin's lawyers are normal lawyers--like they'll get nice firm jobs and their law schools will invite them to talk to students, etc--but the lawyers facilitating Trump's lawlessness should be professionally and socially shamed

DOJ: CA NG is already federalized

Judge: You are an officer of the court. Do you think this is an appropriate way to deal with my order? Appropriate way of dealing with ruling you disagree with?

DOJ: Well, I'm not a policy maker

Judge: You're a lawyer

This is so incredibly fucking cruel. A policy of systematic, psychological torture of children.

Shelters that house unaccompanied minors are bracing for "Freaky Friday," the start of an ICE operation that will first issue letters to children, seeking to pressure them to return to the countries they've fled in exchange for a cash payment. If they decline, their parents will be targeted by ICE.

Speaking as someone who filed jointly with a green card holder, YES. Also, working people who are in the United States illegally also play plenty of (payroll) taxes.

Note that the administration has also yanked magnet school grant funding from some large school districts for "failure to certify that they will comply with civil rights law," which means they won't backpedal on efforts to serve trans students and students from racial minority groups.

I just got a (poorly) targeted recruitment ad that promised a $50k signing bonus for new ICE agents. While ICE terrorizes whole communities and frightens students into staying home from school, just the ICE "signing bonus" is higher than the national average salary for a new teacher.

We are now in the domain of not just illegal impoundments, but targeted illegal impoundments to punish liberal spaces. Not different from what Trump is doing to to universities.

The President of the United States just declared “war” on millions of Americans.

That’s about as authoritarian as it gets.

Trump: San Francisco and Chicago, New York, Los Angeles… We'll straighten them out one-by-one. It will be a major part for some of the people in this room. It’s a war too. It’s a war from within

Which Congressional Districts Would Lose the Most K–12 Funding Under the Trump and House Education Budgets
Fiscal year 2026 budget proposals from President Trump and House Republicans would substantially cut K-12 funding, especially in rural and low-income areas.

8/ Unequal school districts don't just reinforce inequality -- they accelerate it. Rich people buy their way into expensive, property-rich districts, generating more money for better schools, which in turn drives up prices. For poor districts, the cycle runs in the opposite direction.

2/ The geographic boundaries defining our 15,000 public school districts were created by a combination of historical happenstance and deliberate discrimination.

Many low-income students and people of color are segregated into districts that don't have enough money to provide a good education.

trary, the financial community and the public regard the Federal Reserve Board as a trustworthy institution in part because such individuals historically have not served on it. Contra Opp. 28-29. Cook warns (Opp. 28-29) that courts must prophylactically cabin the Federal Reserve Act's "for cause" standard lest Presidents mask policy-based removals as removals for cause. But the "presumption of regularity" requires courts to presume that the President will properly discharge his duties, United States v. Chemical Foundation, 272 U.S. 1, 14 (1926), and "will not use statutorily prescribed removal causes as pretexts," Bowsher v.
