Today seems like a great day to re-up my slides from 2017 about the Nazi takeover of German physics, in part because in my estimation, a lot of American physicists in 2025 are confused about whether "agreeing to work with them" is resistance (it's not) and whether it works (it doesn't) 🧪⚛️

Also, I much rather lose my research portfolio than my freedom of speech, so as a potential beneficiary of this ridiculous compact sent by DOE to my school, I want Penn to reject the idea and the premise of giving up our identity. I am not optimistic though. 😏

When I started my career, well meaning colleagues told me that without DOD grants, I'll never get tenure in my field.

I prefer to lose my job than contribute to a system that literally killed my family members.

I did get tenure and have not ever applied to any of these grants. It can be done.

Was just reminded that DARPA is still flush with research cash and it is clearly the establishment's hope that physical scientists will just turn to research that is functionally an investment in killing people

Fun chemistry fact learned on the streets of Iran: if you blow the smoke of a cigarette on someone's face, it helps reduce the painful effects of tear gas. The organic aerosol absorbs the chemical in tear gas.

My grandpa on my mom's side, rarely spoke more than 3 sentences in a given evening, had his corner of the room no one occupied, wore the same clothes/styles, avoided wool, didn't like loud noise, showed his love indirectly though acts not words, ... But we have no family history of autism.

My dad bounced off the walls till he was like 75 entrance, missed important exams for college, became a vet doctor on a limb, then went back to college at the age of 45 and got a 2nd phd, and completely changed careers.... But my ADHD showed up suddenly at age 35 with no family history! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Speaking for all physicians and healthcare providers here. When we see patients in need of care especially in an emergency room we do not leave them for dead. We do not care about their immigration status, we treat them because that is what we took an oath to do and is also basic human decency.

Police say they are responding to an incident in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester Greater Manchester Police said a suspect has been shot and four people have suffered injuries caused by a vehicle and stabbings at a synagogue in Crumpsall north of the city.
