Today at the PBA ride I was unexpectedly inducted into the philadelphia dynamo headlight society by CJ

Blessed be the hub

An absolutely perfect song

A small habit I've been trying to nurture:
when I wake up with a song on my mind,
listen to that song

Today's edition: Rain, by The Clientele, 2000
"And the stars are falling on this night like rain
through the silence of the dark October lanes"

"The highest form of wealth is the ability to wake up every morning and say, 'I can do whatever I want today.'

...The ability to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, for as long as you want, is priceless. It is the highest dividend money pays."

“Bill Gates went to one of the only high schools in the world that had a computer.” I didn’t know this, and I've never before seen it remarked upon in explaining his success (though I'm sure it has been).

A few notes from "The Psychology of Money" by @morganhousel.bsky.social. It's a personal finance self-help book, which I don't read many of, and of which I'm usually pretty skeptical, but I found this one helpful. 🧵

One thing that makes bikes so good is how bad the internet is.

Last night was the first night of October, and it felt like the first night of fall. We had, I'm not sure, maybe 70-80 people for this ride through the Riverwards? I didn't take any good pictures, but here's a nice one from @0x6772.bsky.social of us taking over Campbell Square (our midpoint)

My brain connects all topics to bikes, so I can't help but consider that the Cape May Dyno, an overnight sunset-to-sunrise 100-mile bike ride from Philly to Cape May the last Fri in Sep, certainly seems like a celebration of the return to long nights www.thetrellisphilly.com/eighth-annua...
Dancing with Delirium at Cape May Dyno
On the annual Cape May Dyno, cyclists depart the Liberty Bell at 7pm and follow the glow of their dynamo lights through the night to dip their toes in the Atlantic Ocean before sunrise.

I think it's interesting we don't have a major holiday marking the fall equinox. The other equinox and solstices have major holidays or festivities, but not fall. Perhaps we don't like to acknowledge that we're slipping into darkness?

The guy who runs Damp Roads recommended Sticky Brand stickers, and I used them for the last batch of black and white @wednightrides.org stickers - no complaints!

My kids at breakfast this morning: "daddy, where is that rainbow tower and can we go?" (the answer: it's in the back of the Rivermark development at Spring Garden & Del Ave, easily bikeable on the DRT)

Did you know this exists in Philly? We used this new light sculpture as a regrouping spot on tonight’s @wednightrides.org.

Last night's ride was extremely cool. The rain stopped! We had, I don't know, I didn't count, maybe 70? excellent humans who rode a very cool vinyl-adjacent route before ending at a record lounge in Old City. A++, would ride again

No complaints. My first time doing this, but it was easy to install and adjust the shifting, good written & video instructions. My partner said the shifting is great, her only complaint was it's slightly loud (clunk when shifting), but that could be my inexpert derailleur adjustment
