One month ago, Italians voted in a referendum on easing naturalisation rules for non-EU residents. The quorum wasn’t met, and many voters opposed the change anyway.

In this article, we analyse the economic impact of Italy’s slow, complex, and uncertain naturalisation process: NONE.

Does citizenship-acquisition improve labour market outcomes of immigrant? In the Italian context naturalised immigrants have higher socio-economic attainment and earnings. Yet, this is largely due to positive selection rather than the acquisition of citizenship itself: dx.doi.org/10.1111/imig...

My first PhD article has been published!

🔎 It examines how the relationship between flexible working time arrangements and self-reported work-to-life and life-to-work conflict is moderated by an (un)equal domestic labor distribution within heterosexual couples.

Happy to share that my last PhD article found a home at RSSM. Together with Julia Lang we examine how employees expect their co-workers to react (exit or voice) to perceived wage injustice—and how these expectations vary by gender and workplace context.

Comparing Finland, Germany, and the UK, Ariane Bertogg, Giulia Maria Dotti Sani, Anna Zamberlan and Marija Bashevska show that during COVID-19 an increase in share of housework are associated with higher levels of distress among men but a decrease among women.

Morning person in #RC28? Come tomorrow to the 9am "Attitudes Toward
Gender Roles I" session ☕

I try to evaluate if the end of military service in the UK during the 1960s has produced a shift in men's beliefs and behaviours about the division of paid and unpaid work.

I have received a request to review from the Israel Science Foundation today. I have declined it. My email reply below.

My position is similar to @philipncohen.com : I do not collaborate with institutions linked to the Israeli government.
But I do collaborate with individual researchers.

Our findings support the female preference for equality and self-interest perspectives: women and respondents in lower-rewarded fields perceive greater unfairness.

Moreover, these mechanisms interact: women are especially likely to perceive unfairness when it aligns with their self-interest.
zamberlanna.bsky.social
We investigated this through a novel #survey #experiment in the German Student Survey.

Our study tested two theoretical explanations and their interplay:
1️⃣ Female preference for equality
2️⃣ Biases favoring higher reward expectations for individuals in the evaluator’s own field of study

Interested in inequality research? Here is a starter pack containing research centers / institutes / organizations dedicated to the study of socioeconomic inequality.

Time seemed ripe as, finally, organizations are moving to Bluesky. Let me know if others should be added.
