In the first half of 2025, renewables became the biggest source of global electricity for the first time, as wind & solar growth exceeded global demand growth

Shocking that it's China & India leading - EU & USA have fossil power growing

Cottam coal power station demolished today (the cooling towers).

Will be replaced by a solar farm, using the same grid connection.

Oh and 3) our 19yo lad being away at Uni or on holiday etc meaning DHW is generally 1/2 while he's away.
zapaman.bsky.social
Visible change caused by 1) sunny (spring-summer)period where our DHW has a lot of PV divert into HW storage 2) minor change to HP control strategy with HomeAssistant now taking control of DHW priority, this from July on.

We used 262.7kWh of grid⚡ in Sep-2025 with
105kWh for EV
187kWh general household activity
86.4kWh for ASHP
Delivering 347kWh heat & DHW
our PV generated 240kWh, with 221kWh self consump & ~18kWh export
Total cost of elec: £45.72 inc VAT and standing charge (but excluding FiT payments for our PV).

High-speed rail is coming to #Canada!

This week, federal government fast-tracked the Alto project.

Will link #Quebec City- #Montreal - #Ottawa - #Toronto , a corridor with half Canada's population.

Projected to carry 30 million passengers a year—twice US Northeast Corridor—on 300 km/h trains.

He headlined a $500 dollar a head fundraiser for Trump…

I doubt, in those circumstances, he funded the trip (air fares/ hotels etc) himself

He‘s acting like a foreign agent isn’t he?

If he loves Trump’s America so much, why doesn’t he go & lives there? …the Brexiter’s line to Pro Eu people.

Imagine a grid able to understand actual demand for a day based on heatpumps telling it what they need and cars telling it what they need. It could balance load by staggering car chargers and staggering hot water loads.

Here is some info I was able to find for Köln. I haven't visited Köln in recent years but it seemed to me that the city has had a gradual improvement approach to cycling provision in a region that is otherwise fairly car dependent. www.eco-counter.com/blog/cologne...
Cologne Achieves Historic Bicycle Win
Cologne counted more bicycles than cars for the first time in 2025—a milestone for their mobility mission. Permanent counting stations showed the figures!

How would Köln and Berlin compare in this regard?

As the IDF begins its second full invasion of Gaza City, remember how much of the city's outer regions have already been razed (bulldozers/demo charges) in the meantime. If you look at Gaza City, Jabaliya, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahiya as one 25-sq-mile metroplex, about half (black) is already gone.

The world's biggest heavy truck market is electrifying!

China's sales of electric trucks skyrocket to 22% from 8.6% in H1 2025, compared to H1 2024.

LNG truck sales fall.

Electrifying everything will not be easy, but electrifying road transport will be. #energysky

This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake
