Everything they want to put into an app. Every shop want to have their own app. Billing also separate per app. I want to pay my bills through website and they tell me to log in through app. They've learned nothing from SimplyGO fiasco. Govt and corps only know how to chase trends (see AI) 😠

My older family members mainly use iphones because they don't want to figure out the differences in the different android brands (honestly fair). Also, I don't even know if this 'update' would work on older android phones considering at some point, you can't update because it's too outdated

This would affect third party stores on android much more (see Epic store case with Google) since they are likely to contain apps that are not signed off with google play (because why would you pay for the google play development fee if you're not publishing on the play store?)

I think it would also affect android phones using native android OS so custom android OS (One UI which xiaomi and huawei uses) probably won't even feel it. The developers of that OS could update to remove dependency on google play services and use their own variant too 🤷 It would render the ban moot

Ironically, this wouldn't help much with the scam situation here (SG) because the most vulnerable group are using iphones instead of android or not even using a smartphone at all.

Wouldn't this also block apps installed from other apps like taptap? It would also block apps that you created yourself unless you sign it through google play first.
